Keep them away from danger
Anti-personnel mines, those little bombs designed to maim you, are still mostly cleared by hand. Thousands of men and women clear landmines every day by probing the ground on their knees with a stick and a small shovel. Meanwhile, we are able to send robots to Mars! So is technology also two-tier? Do the poorest people not have the right to benefit from the latest technology in order to enjoy a more peaceful life? The Swiss non-profit organisation, the Digger Foundation, has made a name for itself since 1998 in the fight against these deadly devices. Its aim is to provide the most disadvantaged with safer, faster, more economical solutions… isn’t that more just? It all started in a garage with a bunch of naive but motivated young people who no one believed in, and yet…
Landmines and explosives left by war
Every day wasted leads to suffering
Anti-personnel mines kill and mutilate people. Civilians and children are the main victims.
Reconstruction requires that they be identified and eradicated as a priority.
But the demining techniques used are often archaic, slow, dangerous and expensive.
For more than 20 years, we have been providing non-profit technology to make humanitarian demining:
– faster
– safer
– less expensive
We then develop numerous operations with our demining partners, based on our high-performance machines. Because the fact that the beneficiaries are often poor and destitute, doesn’t make them any less deserving.
Dangerous work
There are also dangers in our part of the world.
Risks to human life are not just confined to minefields.
The remote-controlled DIGGER SCRAPER system that we are developing for humanitarian demining is also useful in certain civil engineering situations:
– on unstable or steep terrain
– in the presence of toxic, radioactive or explosive substances
– in tunnels or mines
…
Keeping people out of harm’s way makes sense here, too, and it is also perfectly in line with the goal of the Digger Foundation:
…saving lives.
Expo Digger
Expo Digger, come and visit us, and experience what we do every day
In the Expo Digger, we open our doors, so you can see what we do first hand and share our passion.
The Expo Digger is an interactive space where the public accompanied by our guides, can:
– immerse themselves in the extraordinary adventure that is the history of the Digger Foundation
– feel the experience of the people who face the scourge of mines and other explosive remnants of war
– discover the different generations of demining machines, at the very places where they were developed
– understand the challenge of mine clearance in the 21st century
– and make many other discoveries…
Don’t hesitate, come and visit us!
