Martin HunzikerMunicipal councilor in Trachselwald
Martin Hunziker is a municipal councilor in Trachselwald and is actively committed to overseeing the Department of Education. He has also been a member of the Care Team of the Canton of Bern for more than twelve years. A pastor by training, he has always been actively engaged in serving the community and promoting intercultural dialogue. Within the framework of the project “Schools United to Demine Ukraine,” he is the initiator and driving force behind a support event for our Foundation. The goal: to help finance a demining machine. This project will reach its highlights during the weekends of September 27/28 and October 4/5, 2025. On these dates, a demining machine will be displayed as part of activities organized by local associations, in order to showcase this initiative. Martin Hunziker’s entrepreneurial spirit, his deep roots in the region, and his humanistic values make him a valuable spokesperson for our mission.

“At a time when news from around the world is becoming increasingly overwhelming, leaving little room for hope, the need for new perspectives is growing. We need pathways that show us how to act sensibly, today and tomorrow.
Unfortunately, we often witness the failure of diplomacy. Discussions no longer lead to results, and trust is fading. It is all the more important to strengthen our stance—with heart, hands, and mind—and to take responsibility. Young people, in particular, need role models. They must be able to see and experience that our actions make a difference, in simple, understandable, and courageous ways. Only then can they believe that a good life is possible.
This is the case with the Digger Foundation. Its machines help people living in regions made dangerous by wars and landmines. Through their work, they bring safety and new hope where others have long since given up.”
